Second medical opinion

A second opinion, for real peace of mind

A new diagnosis or a difficult treatment decision can leave you with important unanswered questions. I offer second opinions for blood cancers and non-malignant blood conditions. I take the time to review your diagnosis and options with you, so you can move forward feeling clearer and more confident.

There are three second opinion packages for self-paying patients, from a focused consultation to an in-depth expert review. Please get in touch before booking so we can find the right one for you.

Who a second opinion can help

Many of the people I see for a second opinion simply want reassurance. Others are weighing up treatment options, or feel they have not yet had the chance to ask every question that matters to them and their family.

A second opinion can help confirm the diagnosis, look again at the available treatment options and give you a clearer picture of what to expect.

Where appropriate, I review your existing medical records, scans and pathology results as part of my assessment, so nothing important is overlooked.

Blood cancers

Including lymphoma and CLL and myeloma and related conditions, whether you are newly diagnosed or considering a change in treatment.

Non-malignant conditions

Such as anaemia, iron problems, bruising and platelet disorders, blood clots, or blood test results that have not been fully explained.

What I look at

  • Your medical records
  • Scans and imaging
  • Pathology results

Choose the level of review that fits your situation

Each package builds on the one before. Every situation is different, so please ask for a quote. We will also advise you on which package is best for you.

Before your consultation

We are happy to help you choose a package and explain what to send. However, I am not able to give an opinion on, or interpret, any test results before your consultation.

Please provide copies of your medical records. If we need to retrieve records from your GP or hospital, there is an admin fee of £50 per provider.

Already had a second opinion with me?

If there have been important developments since, such as new tests or new treatment options, a second opinion follow-up lets us discuss them. A new problem needs a new second opinion.

Please get in touch before booking

A short conversation first helps me make sure your second opinion is as useful as possible. We can talk about your situation, recommend the package that best fits your needs and give you a quote. We will also tell you which records, scans and results to gather beforehand.

It also means there are no surprises about what is included, so you can focus on getting the answers you need.

Common questions

If your question is not answered here, please get in touch with the practice and we will be glad to help.

Which package is right for me?

The basic consultation suits focused questions with up to three medical records. The comprehensive case analysis is the right choice for most people, because it includes a full review of your records and a detailed report. The expert diagnostic review is for very complex cases where the diagnosis is in real doubt. Contact the practice before booking and we will help you choose.

Can you look at my results before the consultation?

I am sorry, but I cannot give an opinion on, or interpret, test results before your consultation. Before you book, we can help you choose the right package and tell you which records to send.

What records should I send?

Send copies of your relevant medical records, such as clinic letters, blood test results, scan reports and pathology reports. If you cannot get them yourself, we can request them from your GP or hospital for an admin fee of £50 per provider.

Do the packages include tests or treatment?

No. The basic consultation and comprehensive case analysis do not include investigations or treatment. The expert diagnostic review adds pathology slide review and re-interpretation of imaging by expert radiologists. The imaging review is charged separately, and we include it in your quote.

Can I use my health insurance?

The second opinion packages are for self-paying patients. If you have private medical insurance, please contact the practice before booking so we can talk through the options available to you.

What if something changes after my second opinion?

With the comprehensive case analysis or the expert diagnostic review, you can email me with follow-up questions for up to 30 days. After that, or if there are important new developments, a second opinion follow-up lets us discuss them. A completely new problem needs a new second opinion.
