Reviewing your progress
We talk about how you have been feeling since we last met, what has improved, and anything that is still worrying you or getting in the way of daily life.
A follow-up is our chance to see how you are getting on. We go over any new results together, look at how things have changed since we last met, and agree what happens next, all at a pace that suits you.
I see patients for follow-up appointments at my private practice at The Blackheath Hospital in south-east London.
Seeing me for the first time? Please book an initial consultation instead.
Many blood conditions are best looked after over time rather than in a single visit. Follow-up appointments let me check that your plan is still the right one for you.
We talk about how you have been feeling since we last met, what has improved, and anything that is still worrying you or getting in the way of daily life.
I explain your latest blood tests, scans or other results in plain language, compare them with earlier ones and tell you what they mean for you.
If something needs to change, whether that is a treatment, further tests or how often we monitor things, we decide on it together.
I offer a dedicated follow-up for patients who have been treated for iron deficiency, including after an intravenous iron infusion. We look at your repeat blood results, talk about how your energy and symptoms have changed, and make sure the underlying cause is being looked after so the problem does not keep coming back.
Follow-ups are usually relaxed and conversational. Family members are very welcome to come along, and there is always time for your questions.
If you have had tests done elsewhere since our last appointment, please bring copies or send them ahead. A short list of your current medicines and any questions you want to ask is helpful too.
We start with how you have been. I then take you through your results, examine you if that is needed, and explain your options clearly so you can make decisions that feel right for you.
You leave knowing what happens next. Where needed, I arrange any further tests or treatment, and with your agreement I keep your GP informed. We agree together whether and when another follow-up would be useful.
Usually I will suggest one at the end of your previous appointment. You can also book one if new results come through, your symptoms change, or you have questions about your treatment.
Of course. Many patients find it helpful to have someone with them to listen, take notes and ask questions. Please let us know if they will be joining you.
Not always. When results are straightforward, a written results report may be enough. If there is more to discuss or a decision to make, a follow-up consultation is usually the better choice.
Please get in touch with the practice and we will happily help you choose. You can also ask us about fees and appointment availability.
Book online through Circle Health Group, or email the practice first if you have a question or are not sure which appointment you need.
